1. A poem

A young woman explains sushi to an old woman:

Sashimi is the one with no rice.

Sushi is the one lying down on a bed of rice
wearing a little belt.

2. Something that happened

We stopped at McDonald’s in Kaneohe to use the bathroom. There was a small family of chickens circling the grassy area between the drive-thru and the parking lot. The hen defended her chick against a pigeon. The rooster fought another pigeon over a hamburger bun. It seems that conditions both inside and outside of McDonald’s are not ideal for raising a chicken family.

3. A picture

Hawaii is so beautiful that it makes me miss the grime of New York City. I apologize in advance that this is the dirtiest street corner I could find in Honolulu. I also thought it was important to note that my son and I now have the same shoe size.

I hope that this week that you get to graze for bread in Birkenstocks the size of mountains.
